Product Info : San Francisco | Type : Individual Work | Role : UX/UI (Product Designer)
Goal : To help users create highly personalized rituals from boring and difficult tasks.
Problem :
We have all struggled to follow through on our resolutions, like going to a gym, reading a book, to meditate or even to wake up early in the morning. It is hard to convert an aspirational task, which can be arduous or boring into an easy routine. Traditional procrastination beating techniques like to-do lists and reminders are full of such aspirational tasks accumulating over time.
User Research : I have conducted extensive research on the topic of procrastination to understand why people postpone tasks in-spite using To-do lists, Reminders and other Productivity tools and techniques. The whole project is been divided into different sections with surveys and investigations into testing for a set of users interests and attitudes towards cultivating a routine for them.

Iteration 2 : Researching on Types of Motivation & Distractions
This study was conducted among 13 users to understand what kind motivation best help to focus on a task. How do people really depend on Extrinsic and Intrinsic types of motivation? This task was to find out the users pain points more closely by having a one to one conversation with them. What are their real obstacles in trying to create a routine for themselves when taking up a new task? How does reminders, Peer Pressure, Accountability and other productivity tools are used among people to catch up on their task? Some people are struggling to form a routine out a new task that they have been trying to make it a routine.
These sample cards were designed to initiate a conversation among users to understand their pain points in detail while each user is trying to form a new routine out of a new task that they want to add to their life.
Yellow cards - Represent certain extrinsic motivation cards.
White Cards -The users were given some sample cards to pick and write their own type motivations and pain points if they don't find them in my cards.

User Feedback :
Insights :
This Card Sorting Experience didn't give me enough content to move forward. So, I had send a quick survey to all my users again to filter down their pain points.
Iteration 3:
User Survey :
Tasks that people postpone often!
As per the survey out of fifteen participants most of them replied that they postpone the things that they want to do.
Have to do - Check my mails, Take shower, Eat, Sleep, Go to Work etc.
Want to do's - Exercise, Vacation, Go for a walk, Do laundry, Vacuum the house etc.
Iteration 4 :
Self-Curated Ritual Kits - The idea of this iteration is to make the a simple task more engaging and interactive.
So I picked on three different boring tasks based on user's choice and tried to design a ritual kit such that users take part in the activity to add a sense of meaning to the ritual performed at a given time repeatedly until it creates a routine for them.
